What I've been working on

For the last week I've been working on art stuffs, exploring my styles, understanding erroneous and successful technique along the way. Here are a few of my results.

A work in progress. Doodle with calligraphy ink on drawing card stock.

Poppies. First finished canvas with acrylic, copper leafing, and calligraphy ink.

Mountain vista. Watercolour on sketch paper.

Do let me know whatcha think. Any feedback is appreciated!

  1. Hi, I found my way here very indirectly from StackOverflow and someone with a blogger blog named Stevey.

Anyway, I'm commenting about your 3 nice art works. The first one has potential, but you need to refine the technique somewhat. It is still lovely though. I really like French curves and spirals, which it reminds me of.

The second is the most traditional in terms of Western art and detail work. Big surprise: I liked it the most (sorry, I'm predictable).

The third one looked SO much like ukiyo-e! I am amazed that you did that, evoked the effect of an Edo-era woodblock print using watercolor. Actually, I love ukiyo-e, so maybe I'm not THAT boring.

So there you go. Someone else should have given you feedback before now. You do lovely work!

  2. Oh my gosh, Ellie! Thank you so much for dropping in and giving me some tips and compliments. I'm atrocious at blogging, I'm afraid, so I rarely check in and now realise I must not be receiving comment notifications. :P

I have no art training and very little knowledge about it but find myself coming back to it lately (currently I'm working on typography and my cartooning style). I absolutely love ukiyo-e, too! I love the fine line, white balance, and contrasts of its style... Needless to say your comments give me confidence and much needed direction. Thank you! :)
